Famous Superstars to Compete at Worlds and The Summit in Florida

All Stars 2

For Jazlyn McGrew, a senior at George Washington High School, to have the opportunity to go to Worlds and The Summit is a dream come true. Both competitive events represent the pinnacle of all-star cheerleading. The past 14 years of hard work and dedication have culminated to this moment. McGrew expressed, “This opportunity means a great deal to me because we have earned the right to go. This is my last year to compete in all-star cheerleading at the highest level.” On signing day at George Washington High School, she committed to attend Fairmont State University on an Acrobatics and Tumbling scholarship this fall.

Jazlyn is one of many athletes who are making the trek this weekend, April 23-25, to compete in The Cheerleading Worlds at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando. The following weekend, April 30-May 1, she and fellow athletes will compete at The D2 Summit in Tampa. Brian Gravely and Amara Green, owners of Famous Superstars, are laser focused on representing West Virginia at the highest level. Only two gyms in West Virginia have ever made it to Worlds: Ohio Valley and Famous Superstars. Gravely said, “It truly is a blessing to represent West Virginia at such a prestigious event.” Located on the West Side of Charleston, Famous is one of a few outlets that provides the opportunity to learn lifeskills. They do it through cheerleading. Gravely adds, “We are truly grateful for all the support of the local community.”

I asked Gravely what this opportunity means as a coach and what will be going through his mind as his athletes take the stage. He responded, “I know how they feel. I’ve been in their shoes. It’s the biggest event in cheerleading. It’s not so much about winning the competition but to hit perfectly everything they have worked so hard to achieve throughout this season. More than anything, I want them to feel that their commitment and hard work is worth it and to feel proud that they achieved something bigger than themselves. I want them to just ‘hit’ and do their best.”

The Cheerleading Worlds is scheduled to air on ESPNU on the following dates and times:

May 28, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM Eastern

June 5, 10:00 AM to 11:00AM Eastern
