Week Five

IOGA Energy Speaks

State Section Rankings

September 28, 2015

Class AAA

Week 5 in AAA was very competitive with The Park Pit edging out rival John Marshall by taking advantage of a home date and lots of interaction on @RSNsports1.  Martinsburg also brought it to us behind a big home date with previously undefeated Morgantown.  Spring Mills went RAVE on us and Parkersburg and Cabell Midland are waiting for us to see them live in action.  Rivals Lewis County and Buckannon-Upshur came out of nowhere to crash the top 10 this week.  University went NEON so we didn’t miss them.  The others were all traveling or on a open date but managed to keep some mild interaction going to score some points at Honorable Mention.  Those points could be important in the season grand totals.

1.  Wheeling Park

2.  John Marshall

3.  Martinsburg

4.  Spring Mills

5.  Parkersburg

6.  Cabell Midland

7.  Lewis County

8.  Buckhannon-Upshur

9.  University

10.  Lincoln County

Honorable Mention:  Saint Albans, Brooke, Nitro, Morgantown, Hurricane, Woodrow Wilson.

Class AA

Chapmanville led a otherwise weak field of AA sections for week 5.  The Tigers came on strong behind a undefeated team but there’s plenty of room for sections to move up the ladder in week 6.

1.  Chapmanville

2.  R.C. Byrd

3.  Fairmont Senior

4.  Bridgeport

5.  Mingo Central

6.  Wayne

7.  Oak Glen

8.  James Monroe

9.  Bluefield

10.   Grafton

Honorable Mention:  Petersburg, Nicholas  County, Hoover.

Class A

Class A witnessed former #1 Williamstown move back on top.  However there was plenty of room for another section to challenge for supremacy.  At the halfway point in the fall season, we believe it’s time for some sections to step up their game down the stretch!

1.  Williamstown

2.  Magnolia

3.  Fayetteville

4.  Buffalo

5.  Tyler Consolidated

6.  Moorefield

7.  East Hardy

8.  Doddridge County

9.  Midland Trail

10.  Hundred

Honorable Mention:  Pocahontas County, Saint Marys

Week Four

IOGA Energy Speaks

State Section Rankings

September 21, 2015

Class AAA

The competition is as fierce as ever in the heavyweight class AAA.  Any number of sections could make a strong argument to be ranked #1 or at least top 5.  Our tabulations worked overtime to make the final decisions in very close calls.  In the end it was perennial favorite JMHS that overloaded our systems with pregame, in-game and post-game updates of what they were doing.  That coupled with a great first home game turnout and celebration of a victory put them over the top.  However, rival Wheeling Park came in very close second as did ever creative Morgantown.  Martinsburg also gave a strong performance that in a lot of weeks would have taken top spot.   Cabell Midland rounded out the top 5 and is on our “to see” list.  Newcomers Parkersburg and GW made strong impressions and RSN saw first hand a zany crew of 12th Man at Lincoln County this past Friday.

1.  John Marshall

2.  Wheeling Park

3.  Morgantown

4.  Martinsburg

5.  Cabell Midland

6.  Parkersburg

7.  Lincoln County

8.   Parkersburg South

9.  Spring Mills

10.  Brooke

11.  Musselman

12.  GW

13.  Greenbrier East

14.  Saint Albans

15. South Charleston

Class AA

Class AA saw the resurgence of former power RCB in a big way.  The Eagles ran away with the top spot in a weak week for class AA.  The good news is there’s plenty of room for most sections to move up in AA.

1.  R.C. Byrd

2.  Fairmont Senior

3.  James Monroe

4.  Oak Glen

5.  Bridgeport

6.  Wayne

7.  Mingo Central

8.  Bluefield

9.  Hoover

10.  Chapmanville

Honorable Mention:  Nicholas County, Grafton, Sissonville, Scott.

Class A

Class A was more competitive than AA but still left a lot of room for aspiring sections to move up the rankings this week.  Buffalo gave us a strong showing to take the top spot for week 4 but the rest of the field is full of sections that are capable of surging to the top quickly.

1.  Buffalo

2.  Williamstown

3.  Magnolia

4.  Fayetteville

5.  Hundred

6.  Midland Trail

7.  East Hardy

8.  Moorefield

9.  Pocahontas County

10.  Doddridge County

State Section Rankings

September 14, 2015

A BIG S/O to the Independent Oil & Gas Association of WV for helping sponsor the 2015 Section Rankings.  Although they play know role in the actual rankings, they help make this most fun part of high school sports possible.

Class AAA

Class AAA is easily the most competitive class for student sections.  Anyone in this Top 15 or even some not listed could challenge for top spots on any given week.  Of course the key is consistency even on the road and submissions throughout the week.  It was a tough call for us again this week, especially in the top 5 spots but here’s what the staff calculated…

1.   Wheeling Park – Brought it all week long right into a big home game turnout.

2.   John Marshall – Always strong even on a bye week.

3.   Parkersburg South –  Witnessed the Psychos first-hand and it was impressive.

4.  Lincoln County – The now name “Blue Goo” kicking it up another notch this week.

5.  Spring Mills –  Relentless.  One of the great sections in WV.

6.  Morgantown –  Traveled well to P South.  Back to former self in 2015.

7.  Cabell Midland –  Traveled well to Capital.  Huge turnouts at home.  Looking for more.

8.  Hedgesville – Powering through even a couple down seasons.  Always original stuff.

9.  Martinsburg –  Took it on the road to PRINCETON!  Impressive indeed.

10.  Saint Albans –  A 2014 top 5 player appears back to challenge for supremacy.

11.  Brooke – Relatively new but lots of potential.  Look out.

12.  Musselman –  Another 2014 favorite back for a more impressive 2015.

13.  University –  Getting there.  We’ll need to see more ahead.

14.  Capital – Lots of potential.  Needs to travel better.

15.  Hurricane – The Crazy Canes are perennial Top 5 favorites.

Class AA

The top 5 spots in AA are always competitive but it tends to fall off after that thus far.  That means there’s lots of room for new or lower sections to move up.  But for now The Wayne Gang jumps back to #1 spot after an impressive home performance and submissions last week.  Watch out for Chapmanville.  A good team and great section is a lethal combo.   And of course the zany section at R.C.B. came alive last week so we expect anything from those guys.

1.  Wayne

2.  James Monroe

3.  Chapmanville

5.  R.C. Byrd

6.  Fairmont Senior

7.  Oak Glen

8.  Bridgeport

9.  Grafton

10.  Herbert Hoover

11.  Mingo Central

12.  Nicholas County

13.  Sissonville

14.  Lincoln

15.  Westside

Class A

Class A is nearly as competitive as AAA within the top 5.  Williamstown took advantage of a close road game to hold off surging Doddridge County while perennial power Magnolia suffered from poor weather with a rare Saturday game going up against WVU football.   Look out for the Pirates of Fayetteville sneaking into that top 5.   Pocahontas County is relatively new but quickly learning what it takes to get our attention.

1.  Williamstown

2.  Doddridge County

3.  Fayetteville

4.  Magnolia

5.  Pocahontas County

6.   Midland Trail

7.  Saint Marys

8.  Buffalo

9.  Moorefield

10.  East Hardy

11.  Tyler Consolidated

12.  Wheeling Central
