Clay County football facility destroyed in flood; season to go on
MONDAY, JUNE 27TH 2016
CLAY, WV (WCHS/WVAH) — Clay County’s football program was in jeopardy after floodwaters wiped out their facility but volunteers are working around the clock to make sure the season kicks off as planned.
When Zack Ferrebee found out his team’s football facility was underwater, he knew the odds of playing in the fall were not good. “It’s awful, your heart just sinks when you see it,” he said, covered in mud and cleaning out the locker room.
The water reached the ceiling, sparing the inside of the high school itself, but leaving nothing untouched when it came to the school’s beloved football program.
